Parrot Head Float Meeting

The Emerald Isle Christmas Parade is coming up soon, and we need to move full steam ahead with our float planning and construction!

IMG_4771The group that met  last week got the creative juices flowing and the next meeting is on Wed October 21st at 6:30 at Ken and Sue’s (Stonesend) 9701 Ashley Place, EI.   Plans for the float design will be finalized, list of materials needed established and a schedule of work days will be set up.

1535007_577283289085065_6498933160331370683_nThe first work day will be Sunday, October 25th 12:30 , at Stonesend and we encourage anyone to participate for as many or few days as you can spare. It is truly a team building activity.  We ask folks to bring a bit of food to share and your beverage of choice.  Meet your fellow Parrot Heads and enjoy a good laugh and get your creative side in play.  No experience necessary…..there is always enough to do.

Coast is Clear Under the Pier Party reminder

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just a quick reminder so that you don’t miss this tomorrow’s fun….Sunday September 20th – Noon – The Coast is Clear Under the Pier Beach Party. Coordinators: Michael Moyer, Mendy Barrows. Our annual Beach party to celebrate return of the beaches to the locals held to the left of the Pier near the Cedar St. lot with food (hot dogs, chips, condiments provided, other food & beverages brought by PHolks), games, raffles, beach fun. Mendy and Michael have decided that this year’s proceeds will be split between the Humane Society Animal Shelter and Island Cat Allies.

Bring: chairs, shade, suntan lotion, a little something to share that goes with the yummy hot dogs, your beverage of choice and of course money for raffle tickets and donations for food. We don’t charge for any of the food, but rely on your donations! Hope to see you all there! Sue

Mini Golf Tournament Time Change

We were just notified that  Emerald Forest Mini Golf  just found out that they must close early due to the Jewish holiday (non local business owner decision).  For that reason, the Putt Putt golf tournament will need to start earlier.   Open registration (sign up or if you are already signed up….time to pay up)  will now begin at 4:30 with the shot gun start at 5.  Please let me know (for those previously signed up) if you will no longer be able to attend.

We will continue with the Awards ceremony at Wine Mixer with light appetizers and one free drink, immediately following the tournament.   Sue

Final details for Anniversary Weekend

August 7th 7 PM First Friday PHlocking –   August 7th Phlocking will be a Margaritaville Luau featuring DJ Rob with his usual selection of entertaining and danceable tunes.  Wear your best island Luau attire, or at least something wild and festive!

August 9th Sunday – 1PM to 5 PM – Club Anniversary Island/Sandbar Party (13th anniversary of the Club) Yes, it is time again and we are hoping for the best of weather! Pelican Island is the site for the event, it is just off the shoreline of Swansboro, opposite the Swansboro Yacht Club, the island with a dock and flag.   Low tide will be 9:55 and high tide is 4:35. Since this is our way of thanking all the members and volunteers for the good work and good deeds that have taken place over the year, the club will be providing hamburgers, hotdogs, (and rolls) condiments, paper products and music by Scearce and Ketner. We ask that everyone bring a little something to share and your own beverage of choice. We will have a few semi-organized activities/games but feel free to bring any beach games you might have for more fun. This is a private party for Parrot Heads and guests. Last time we had lots of people who were not members who had just heard about the party and we ran out of burgers and dogs and some Club members did not get any, so please have your guests bring something to share. We won’t be doing memberships at the island but anyone can join though the website.

We have gotten questions about why we hold this on a Sunday as some of our members are from out of town and have to leave on Sunday. Here is the short answer. We have many club members who work in service industries and cannot attend our PHlockings or events held on Friday or Saturday.   This event as well as the Coast is Clear Party are held on Sundays so our working friends can join us.   We try to find ways to include everyone!

Juicy details:   You can arrive when you want if you have water transportation. We have a few generous souls who will kindly give some rides to and from. They will start picking up people at 12:30 and every hour and half hour until around 2 PM.  (please bring a few bucks to help offset their gas costs, your tip is their salary!!!)

Pick up points: – 1. Swansboro public dock between Bake, Bottle & Brew and Saltwater Grill.  2. Dock at Bake, Bottle&Brew (Jack, the owner of the establishment and part owner of Pelican Island has offered his dock and people can enter through store).

August events preview

The club is busy making plans for our Parrot Head Club Anniversary Weekend, August 7-9.   Everyone should be looking for a fun weekend with a Phirst Phriday PHlocking on Friday (Aug. 7th) followed by our Anniversary Island Party (August 9th) out on Pelican Island.  Parrot Heads and friends will arrive by boat, kayak, canoe, or other(?) for a fun day in the sun and water with games, grllin’ & chillin’, and music by Dicky Scearce & Jack Ketner (A.K.A Scared of Kittens).  IMG_0826After the party was postponed last year because of bad weather and then cancelled because of more bad weather, we expect that the Phlock will be ready to party twice as hard and enjoy the anniversary weekend.  Look for more information coming soon here on the website and on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.
