Ready For Some Fun in the Sun? The Beach Bike Poker Run is coming up Saturday, May 16.  Dress up your bicycle in a selected theme, ride around town and collect the best poker hand!  There will be prizes for the best poker hands along with the best decorated bicycles in each category.  Join us for a hysterical good time!

Meeting of the Minds 2015Hello Parrot Heads!! I hope your daylight hours are getting a little longer and the sunshine is bringing you warmer days…there is still some winter to go but that doesn’t stop us from planning to feel the tropical winds on our faces in a few months.  I want to let you know that the Meeting of the Minds 2015 entertainment schedule is only weeks from being announced! I just turned the ceiling fans on high to dry the ink on some contracts and the cell phone towers are working overtime…

Hope 4 Holly Fundraiser flyerYou have probably already heard that a young (29)  local woman  and nurse with 2 young children has ovarian cancer and the community is rallying around this family.  The Emerald Club is hosting the first fundraiser on Saturday January 17th starting with a Community Yard Sale from 8 am to Noon (at the E-Club), Barbeque Plates for $8 (food donated by the E-Club and Piggly Wiggly) from 11 AM to 2PM, 50/50 raffle, plus 4 bands starting at 5 PM (cover is $10)   All cover, tips and proceeds will be donated to Hope 4 Holly.  (see attached flyer).  How can the Emerald Isle Parrot Head Nation help?   We need items to be donated for the yard sale, shop at the yard sale, work at the yard sale, sell and purchase raffle tickets, help with serving BBQ, come and eat and listen to some great bands who are donating their time for this cause.   Donated items for the yard sale can be brought to 117 Arthur Dr. Emerald Isle (on the ocean side, off Craig St.)  Contact Travis at 252-503-1571 for info or donation pick up.  You know we have 387 members in our Club right now and we can have a major impact on this fundraiser so let’s get out the Parrot Power.  Check the flyer for more details and we will keep you posted on Facebook as well.

New Info for Yard Sale Item Drop Off!
The Emerald Club now has a storage trailer so you can drop off any items there.  If someone is in the Club, you can let them know and if not (if they are not open) you can leave the items outside the storage container if it is locked and they will check periodically to load items.   Date of event is Saturday, January 17th. Several of you have asked about clothing donations and yes they will have a table for good used clothing.

Volunteer Opportunities for EI Parrots

This family fun event is Saturday, September 20th 10 AM – 2PM at the Emerald Isle Community Center. Bringing adults and children of all ages together for a fun-filled day of vendors, activities, games, face painting and more!  Volunteers are needed from 8:30AM – 3PM for various assignments including, but not limited to: manning game booths, manning the information table, running activities such as bingo, and assisting vendors where assigned.  Volunteers are asked to give a minimum of two hours of their time. NC Coastal Federation Annual Native Plant Sale 
The annual plant sale is Monday, September 22 – Friday, September 27 from 9AM – 5PM at the NC Coastal Federation  Headquarters, 3609 Highway 24, Newport. They are asking for volunteers prior to the sale to help clean and organize the yard readying it for the sale. If you have an an hour or so to give, it would be appreciated.
Volunteers are needed to work throughout the sale,  in 4 hour shifts (more/less) if you’re willing.  To volunteer please call 252-393-8185 or email roser@nccoast.org
Canning For Breast Cancer Awareness
The First Friday PHlocking at the E Club is October 3, where we will have an apple peeling competition. The peeled apples will then be canned for sale at a Breast Cancer Fundraiser. Canning will take place on Saturday October 4th in the morning at Flipperz. Volunteers are needed to help can the apples. If you can spare some time, please contact Renee and Jack Synan or Jessi and Jason Holland.  Email Renee at renee.synan@yahoo.com or Jessi at 4jhollands@gmail.com to volunteer.  There is also a golf cart being raffled off through Flipperz for the next few weeks with those proceeds as well going for Breast Cancer.

Meeting of the Minds – November 2014

MOTM-KeyWestNational Parrot Head Convention: Every November (first weekend) the National Parrot Head Organization puts together a convention in Key West that is outstanding and so much fun.  Some Emerald Isle Parrot Heads have attended and can vouch for a wonderful experience. This annual event has live music (of course), street fairs and gatherings of Parrot Heads from around the world! It’s basically a coming home for all Parrot Heads, something to consider at least once.

EIPHC Traveling— EIPHC is checking to see who wants to go. Anyone interested? Email Sue Stone at stonesend@gmail.com. Who’s going so far(at this post date) – Our President and first lady Parrot Jan and James Hicks, Bobbie Raub and Jeanne LaVana, Rita Babich, Karin Woodruff and interest from the Stones, Bonnie Forkey, the Dyers and the Potenbergs. The cut off for registration is September 30, 2014 or when they reach 3500.
